Dalton Harris, the latest winner of the X Factor, is a rising young star in the UK music and performance industry and a vocal talent like no other. Born 29th of December 1993, he has defied all the odds despite facing more life adversity than most would endure in a lifetime. Dalton grew up in harsh poverty with 6 brothers and sisters and a single mother. By the time he was 14, he was already working and helping his mother provide for his younger siblings. Harris always had his eyes set on a better life, but music was the only constant thing in his life.
Dalton found himself homeless at 16 and having to fend for himself. He worked while sending himself to school and after completing college and applying for medical school, chose instead to work on cruise ships and further his experience, skill set and knowledge. “I wanted to be a full-time musician and have a career in music, more than I wanted to borrow millions to go to med school then working back half of my career to pay it back in a field that would help many but not as much and a passionately as I can and have in music. I knew music was my passion and true identity and up until then and even now, has given me everything I have/had in so many ways, so it was more than worth the risk of everything I had to sacrifice like friends – going out and socialising as a teenager – any of the normal stuff teenagers my age would do. Music is the only way I have ever been able to take care of myself, and I am not just talking financially, it has saved me from myself and the world many times, so there was never a question of a doubt in continuing this avenue” Harris said in our meeting. Winning Digicel Rising Stars and getting signed to VP Records and Penthouse Records in 2010, making history as the youngest ever to win the televised National song contest only at 16 years old, this was just the beginning of Dalton’s music career.
After a number of successful releases and number one tracks, he felt his creativity was limited and his talent was serving everyone else but him and so he joined the cruise industry as a Showband Singer then went on to being lead performer in production shows aboard Carnival Cruise Lines. Harris has also written and produced for other artistes during his tenure at Penthouse Records. Dalton signed a record deal in 2011 with Penthouse Records, where he wrote and produced on every release he has had with the record label. Her later went on to entering the X Factor in 2018, season 15, by gaining four yeses from the judges Robbie Williams, Aida Field, Louis Tomlinson and Simon Cowell. Showing a consistent favourite throughout the show, he not only won the nations heart with his charismatic personality and extraordinary voice but proving once again how much of a promising and raw talent he is. Coming out victorious singing alongside known industry artists such as Emily Sande and his winning duet “The Power Of Love” with James Arthur and commanding the same level of stage presence and performance as his peers. This single would go on to then become the number one track in the “UK Big Top Forty” chart, earning Dalton his first UK number one. Dalton was signed to Syco where he completed his recording contract and then subsequently went independent. X Factor 2020 saw the triumphant return of Dalton Harris to the finale stage with his stand-out performance and release of his debut single and music video in the UK titled “Cry”, which amassed over a million streams so far. Dalton has been in the studio with Lil Eddie, Nile Rodgers, Arrow Benjamin and working extensively with Three Bears Productions and continually works hard towards his debut album. Harris recently wrapped filming a broadway musical film “Closer Than Ever” and was starring as Jack in the musical “Jack And The Beanstalk” where he played the leading role of Jack. Harris has amassed over 10 million streams across YouTube and Spotify, and over 150, 000 instagram followers.
Harris recently released his documentary which is showing in cinemas internationally and recently signed a distribution deal with BBC. The documentary is about his life and journey as a young musician sharing his experience with abuse, poverty and mental health awareness through activism, where he won a national grant for excellence in production and has had sold out premieres in Australia and London. Harris has recently been invited to meeting the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as the Dutch Human Rights Ambassador where the film was selected for their Global Impact category. Harris was leading man in “The Drifters Girl” UK Tour where he played several characters and was so happy to be on stage dancing, singing and acting. With so many upcoming projects in the pipeline, Harris has an exciting future and career ahead of him. “I have no idea where I will end up but wherever it is, I want to perform, write and create music and bodies of work that will lead people to love, inclusion, strength and empowerment. I want to work with kind people who are inspired and excited about their craft”.
